SUPPORT FOR ALL LEVELS
Using Scaffolds
Teachers at International Community High School are trained and experienced in providing support for students of all levels. There are many different methods used in the classroom, including the use of "scaffolded supports." Throughout ICHS classrooms, teachers create materials that are intended to help students at different levels taking into account their school learning background and their English skills. These materials help students to succeed in their educational journey regardless of their initial entry level to the school. These supports are intended to be removed so that the more independent a student becomes in their work, the less support that student needs to use

SUPPORT FOR ALL LEVELS
Home Language Support
The classes at International Community High School are designed to provide home language supports for students. Research has shown that maintaining and developing home language skills helps to retain content and develop English language skills. By incorporating home languages, such as Spanish, French, Arabic, and Bengali into lessons, teachers provide support for new arrivals in a language that they can understand and in which they feel comfortable. This approach not only helps to ensure that students can understand classroom material, but it also provides a safe and welcoming environment. While students may rely on their home language for support at the beginning of their high school journey, their in-class use of their home language becomes less frequent as their English skills improve and students feel more comfortable with the language. student becomes in their work, the less support that student needs to use.
Committed To Supporting All Of Our Students
At ICHS, our staff and teachers are dedicated to supporting students both inside and outside the classroom, especially those from vulnerable populations. In today’s political climate, we understand the importance of ensuring our students’ safety and well-being. Students are encouraged to speak confidentially with our guidance counselors if they have concerns about their own immigration status or that of a family member or friend. We also have connections with local organizations that specialize in helping immigrant families, providing additional resources and support.
