MULTICUTURAL SCHOOOL
All Cultures Are Welcome
The staff and teachers at International Community High School recognize the importance of including students' cultures into the classroom. Teachers use the home language of students to help support their learning, but the inclusion of other parts of students' cultures is also fundamental to establishing a welcoming and safe environment for students. Research has also demonstrated that including students' cultures into the learning process is a way to improve how well students learn as well as a way to make the classroom more equitable. Staff and teachers at ICHS practice culturally-responsive methods in their lessons, in communicating with students, and in responding to students' issues in order to create the best learning environment in and out of the classroom.

THE INTERNATIONAL APPROACH
INPS Core Princicples
International Community High School is part of the International Network for Public Schools. This network serves recent immigrants and English language learners who enroll with four years or less of education in U.S. schools. The school models are based on the international approach, based on a set of 5 Core Principles: heterogeneity and collaboration, experiential learning, language and content integration, localized autonomy and responsibility, and one learning model for all. After 30 years of practitioner success working with immigrant students, INPS has begun to design school models that address the growing needs of English Language Learners in communities nationwide, thereby expanding opportunities for ELL students to be served by its innovative best practices.
Heterogeneity + Collaboration
Schools and classrooms are heterogeneous and use collaborative structures that build on the strengths of each member of the school community to optimize learning.
Experiential Learning
Expansion of the 21st-century schools beyond the four walls of the building motivates adolescents and enhances their capacity to successfully participate in modern society.
Language + Content Integration
Strong language skills develop most effectively in context and emerge most naturally in a purposeful, language-rich, interdisciplinary, and experiential program.
Localized Autonomy + Responsibility
Linking autonomy and responsibility at every level within a learning community allows all members to contribute to their fullest potential.
One Learning Model For All
All members of our school community work in diverse, collaborative groups using hands-on projects; put another way, the model for adult learning and student learning mirror each other.
